Remember the YakFisher

It is with great sadness

that I must share the news with everyone that Rodney Carroll has passed away.
Rodney was passionate about supporting the men and women of the US Military and our Veterans. Along with Dan Smith and John Polosky, Rodney led the trip to Wilmington in 2006 that forced establishments to change their policy and allow servicemen in uniform to gain admission. This act ultimately lead to the creation of MAD and Rodney was instrumental in getting the first few events started. Without his leadership and dedication to those who serve, MAD would never have been able to get off the ground. It was his dedication to all who have worn the uniform of our country that fueled him and he wore his love of country as a badge of honor every day.

Please keep Rodney and his family in your thoughts and prayers while we mourn the loss of our dear friend.

In Memory of …

Rodney Isaac Carroll, aka “Yakfisher” went to be with our Lord on Monday, April 6, 2015.
Rodney was born in Greensboro, NC on February 16, 1962 and was currently living in Atlantic Beach, NC. He enjoyed fishing, kayaking, camping, and all outdoor activities. He served honorably in the US Navy and afterwards he became a passionate supporter of all who served in all branches of the military. He was one of the founders of MAD, Military Appreciation Day, and was instrumental in the leadership of that group and organizing events. Rodney’s love of country and those who serve was exceeded only by his love of God, and his family.

Changes to MAD event registration process announced.

Military Appreciation Day Inc. (MAD) is changing our  Guest registration process to make it easier for our guests to sign up for MAD events across the country.

Based on feedback from past participants we have decided to simplify our registration process.  Going forward MAD will no longer collect any information other than guests name, email address and phone number.  This information will be housed on secure servers prior to the event and we will continue to purge all information immediately after the event to ensure confidentiality.

Information collected by MAD is never used or shared by anyone external to the organization except to confirm event participation.

This new registration process will make it easier for our guests and ensure that data security remains a top priority.

Announcing Charleston, S.C. Military Appreciation Day New Chapter!

It is my honor to announce a brand new Military Appreciation Day Inc. chapter in Charleston South Carolina. The Event President is none other than MAD boat volunteer Gene Morrison. Gene has towed his personal boat to North Carolina several times to participate in our take the Troops out fishing and wants to bring the mission of saying One, Simple, Thanks! to the Charleston area. They already have 4-5 boats lined up and a few volunteers to help manage, so they are on their way.
military_charleston
There is a large US Navy military community in and around Charleston and it includes Coast Guard and Air Force as well. Marine base Parris Island is to the south, so I’m certain there will be no shortage of heroes to attend. The event will be held in November, the exact date not chosen at this time but will be announced along with the host venue or location.

Gene is currently in the process of setting up the chapter, bank accounts, etc. but very soon he’ll need help on the streets, talking with people, boat owners, fishing clubs, local businesses that would like to help support their event. So…..we need you! If you are interested in helping in any way possible, please reach out to help get this event started right. From my understanding, there is some great fishing there that time of year.

So please join me in welcoming MAD Charleston to the family….here we GROW again!
