We’re back!
After a 2-year hiatus, we are thrilled to be planning our 2021 event. Mark June 4th/5th on your calendar.
To follow COVID-19 safety protocols, not to mention good common sense, this year’s event will be somewhat scaled back from some previous years.
For example:
We will not host families this year, but we look forward to bringing families back to the event as soon as the situation allows.
We will somewhat limit the number of boats/troops … currently looking at about 50 boats.
We are confident that with these limitations, and ensuring social distancing, providing masks and hand sanitizer, we can significantly reduce risk for our volunteers and troops. Of course, we will continue to monitor the pandemic, coordinate with military authorities, and stay flexible in case of a deteriorating situation.
Here are some key target dates:
Volunteer registration – Currently open (click here to volunteer).
Skipper/boat registration – Currently open (Click here to volunteer your boat)
Troop registration opens April 15
Captains Meeting will be Friday June 4
The Main Event will be Saturday June 5
Finally, we need local volunteers. Please consider helping by registering to help out.
Hope to see you in June. Meanwhile, follow this page and our Facebook page for updates.

Morehead City NC is MAD’s flagship event. Hosting more Troops to date than any of our other events combined, and offering a large multitude of family activities since 2009. MAD is the third largest event in Morehead City, only behind the Seafood Festival and the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament.
This event started in 2006 hosted by Coast Guard Station Ft. Macon, and in 2008 moving into Morehead City. MAD 2013 was one of the largest events, hosting 111 boats, two head boats the Continental Shelf and Carolina Princess, and numerous tour boats. Over 500 Troops fished that event.
The Captain and Volunteer meetings are held in Jaycee Park the Friday evening before the event and then we adjourn to City Park for the cookout and some door prizes.
Event day we start VERY early in the morning getting Troops ready, boats boarded, and away fishing. Family Activities gets underway, when the boats return the catch is cleaned and then the stories of the one that got away are exchanged. Everyone then gathers to feast on the cookout featuring Murphy Brown Pork Chop Steaks”.
Family Activities for Morehead City can include:
- Kids coloring books and sidewalk chalk.
- Kids dock side fishing derby.
- Family boat rides.
- One hour family fishing trips in nearby harbor.
